CBD Buyer's Guide

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol CBD (or cannabidiol) is one of over 85 cannabinoids found in cannabis. CBD is the 2nd most prevalent cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, and it is emerging as a promising therapy for many health ailments.

Will CBD Get Me High?

No, CBD has no psychoactive properties and will cause none of the euphoric feelings associated with THC.

Are Hemp Oil and CBD Oil the Same Thing?

The term hemp oil can cover a variety of products.  If you are seeking a product with a high CBD ratio you will want to make sure the product is labeled as a hemp extract and lists the amount of CBD or hemp extract per dosage on the label.  If the amount of CBD or hemp extract is not listed on the bottle the product may not contain any CBD at all.  With the growing popularity of CBD products, some unscrupulous retailers are selling hemp seed oil under the guise of it containing CBD, which it does not.   Always purchase your products from a trusted source such as the ProHealth CBD Store.

Product listed as CBD will contain the active ingredient cannabidiol, just like hemp extract products. Be sure to check the supplement facts panel on the label to determine the amount of CBD per dosage.  Many manufactures list the total amount of active ingredient in the bottle, so it is important to check to make sure you are purchasing the dosage & quantity you desire.

What Type of Testing is Performed on These Products?

All products sold in the ProHealth CBD Store go through third party testing to ensure they meet label claim and do not contain any harmful constituents.

Types of CBD: Isolates vs. Full Spectrum

CBD Isolate

Products made with CBD isolate will contain only CBD and no constituents of the hemp plant - most importantly no THC.  If you are looking for a product that does not contain any THC at all, you will want to stick with products made with an isolate.  CBD isolate is produced by refining hemp extract to remove all oils, waxes, chlorophyll, and other cannabinoids.  CBD isolate is a white crystalline powder that enables  manufactures greater flexibility in the products they can produce, (beverages, candies, vaporizers and more) making it easier to consume CBD in a wide variety of product types.

Full Spectrum CBD

Full spectrum CBD products will consist primarily of CBD, but also contain terpenes, oils, and other cannabinoids.  These products must contain less than .3% THC to be sold legally in all 50 states.  The “entourage effect” is the primary reason that many users gravitate toward full spectrum hemp oil products. The “entourage effect” refers to the synergistic benefit you gain from combining all aspects of the hemp plant.

CBD Products Types and Dosages

Capsules

Capsule products allow users to receive the therapeutic benefits of CBD in a convenient delivery system.   Capsule products take longer to get into the bloodstream (about 1 hour), but the health benefits can be felt for a longer span of time.  Some report capsules providing benefits for up to 10 hours.  Capsules also allow users to avoid the taste of the hemp oil, which some people find to be unappealing.  Flavoring is often used to mask the earthy taste of hemp oil and make it more palatable.

Tinctures

Tinctures are liquid CBD products that come in small glass bottles equipped with a dropper.   Users consume their desired dosage by dropping the oil under their tongue.  The sublingual delivery method allows for the CBD to uptake to the bloodstream via the mucus membranes under the tongue.

Tinctures are a great choice if you are seeking flexibility in dosage size and delivery method.  Users can vary the dosage to their needs and consume the hemp oil in a variety of ways other than sublingually.  Some of the more popular delivery methods include adding the CBD tincture to a food or beverage.

Topical

Using CBD topically is an excellent way to manage pain in a targeted way.  Topical CBD products allow users to apply CBD oil directly to areas of the body that need relief from pain and inflammation.  Hemp oil also helps to nourish and protect the skin, making topical application of CBD an import part of a daily health routine.

Gummies, Beverages, Vapes and More

CBD manufactures are getting extremely creative with types of delivery methods used to administer CBD isolates and full spectrum products.  You will find a variety of gummy and candy products that appeal to users that may not enjoy the taste of hemp oil.  Vaporizing CBD has become a popular way to get an immediate uptake of CBD into the bloodstream and provide users ease of use and flexibility for when and where they consume CBD.

A variety of beverages now contain CBD and hemp oil.  Using products in the beverage format provides for a longer period to enter the bloodstream and a prolonging of CBD benefits.

Explore and find what is right for you. The market has an ever growing product offering, so you’re sure to find something that fits your lifestyle.  The most important part in selecting a product may be whether you find the most benefit from the synergistic properties of a full spectrum product, or you like the flexible formats and zero THC from an isolate.
