Have you found a CBD product that's ___________ ?
Independently lab tested
Unique to your health needs
If not, keep looking.
The CBD industry is full of low-quality, highly-priced products. In 2017, it was reported that up to 70% of CBD products didn't contain what they claimed to, and newer reports show that things aren't much better today.
The solution is to go with a trusted Company like ProHealth - a company who's established reputation precedes the CBD industry by well over 20 years. Part of our mission? To help you find the right health products by providing accurate, unbiased product reviews.
If you're ready to pursue optimal health, look no further. Here's our in-depth review of Garden of Life CBD oil, a Doctor-formulated blend with an impressive ingredient list.
Garden of Life Whole Hemp Extract Liquid Drops (10 mg per serving)Purity: 9 out of 10
While CBD itself is a highly pure, highly effective supplement, many CBD oils out there are anything but. Potential additives include pesticides, mold toxins, and unstable oils.
Thankfully, Garden of Life gets a high purity score from us. Why's that? Because their Hemp Extract contains a blend of mostly organic ingredients, including premium-grade organic MCT oil. It's worth noting that MCT oil, in one recent study, was identified as the only carrier oil with a long shelf life. On another positive note, even this Hemp Extract's peppermint flavoring is organic.
Next let's look at the most important aspect of Garden of Life's Hemp Extract - the hemp itself. According to the company's website, their hemp is grown in the fertile soils of East Oregon by farmers who "do not use any herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.” Soon their hemp source will be USDA-certified organic, too.
There's one more important aspect of product purity: extraction methods. Garden of Life uses the tried-and-true CO2 method, which utilizes pressurized gas to produce a purified extract that's verifiably solvent-free. Back to the company's website, again:
Pricing: 9 out of 10
With their highly pure, doctor-backed products, you might think Garden of Life's prices would be equally premium.
Actually, that's not the case. Garden of Life's Liquid Drops is among the most affordable hemp extracts out there! The version we tested contains 10 milligrams of CBD per serving - 300 milligrams per bottle - yet it's priced at only $22.99.
Considering most of the CBD industry's products hover around 10 cents per milligram of active CBD or more (a 300 mg bottle would be $30+ at that rate), we'd say Garden of Life's pricing is excellent. While the brand is fairly new to CBD, it's likely they've used their expertise in the rest of the nutraceutical world to quickly scale CBD production up - and thereby make the resulting CBD products very affordable.
Flavor: 9 out of 10
Flavor is important. While your CBD's oil's taste may not directly impact your health, just think - wouldn't you be more likely to take a CBD product if it tastes good? Probably so, yet many CBD oils taste...earthy.
This one, however, tastes and feels medical grade. There's no earthy or hempy aftertaste; instead, users will find a clear white oil that really does taste like chocolate mint. The product's MCT oil base provides a richness and depth to its flavor which is almost dessert-like. It's safe to say that this hemp extract is one we wouldn't mind taking everyday.
We should also mention that the other essences in this blend - they include orange peel and lavendin - are non-detectable within the overall taste. That doesn't mean your body won't feel their benefits, though!
Testing: 8 out of 10
It's clear that Garden of Life is an industry leader as far as product purity goes. Their CBD products are completely free of THC, as verified by the independent product testing company Labdoor. According to Labdoor's CEO, they " [certify] each lot of Garden of Life's CBD ingredients and finished products to ensure supply chain security." While other companies have since been approved by Labdoor, Garden of Life's approval was a CBD industry first.
Our only complaint with Garden of Life's lab testing? It's not available for all to see. Instead, customers must enter their product's particular lot number into an online database to see its certificate of analysis (COA):
For the rest of us - including potential customers who'd like to see a lab result before purchasing - we only have Garden of Life's description of their COA's to go on.
While it's reassuring to know that Garden of Life complies with the product testing requirements of the EU, WHO, USP, EPA, and more, we only wish prospective buyers could get their hands on something a little more tangible.
Unique: 10 out of 10
In a market full of cookie-cutter CBD, Garden of Life's blend manages to stand out. At first glance the packaging is brilliant; its golden lines connote a premium, top-shelf feel.
Perhaps the most unique feature of this CBD oil? Its proprietary entourage effect blend. For those unfamiliar, the entourage effect is a term used to describe how hemp's many ingredients - CBD, other cannabinoids, terpenes, etc. - work together to provide a synergistic overall effect. This Hemp Extract contains added essential oils (including organic frankincense!) that may improve the synergy already found in CBD.
Another plus: unlike most CBD products on the market, this one is accurately labeled. Its packaging states 10 mg, which is the CBD content per serving, not per bottle. Most other CBD products out there state total CBD content on their labels...but look around at the rest of the nutraceutical world and you'll find that per-serving listing is more customary. Why? Among other things, it makes figuring out dosing much easier for the consumer.
Experience: 8 out of 10
We found Garden of Life's Whole Hemp Extract to be pretty powerful. Just 3/4 of a dropper (7.5 milligrams of CBD) was enough to make us feel much more relaxed, and two of these 3/4 dropper servings greatly enhanced the day. Relief from anxiety happened fairly fast, too. Overall, the mental qualities of this Hemp Extract were different from some others we've tried - more subdued and relaxed than wakeful and energizing.
Is it the MCT oil? The lack of THC? Or maybe the lavender and its linalool content made this extract more relaxing than others. For us, at least, it seems like a perfect addition to the evening routine - but given that CBD affects some people differently than others, there's only one way to find out how it will work for you.
Overall, Garden of Life's and its premium hemp extracts are leaving their mark on the hemp industry. Perhaps the doctor behind this product (renowned neurologist David Perlmutter) said it best: "Garden of Life is taking CBD formulation to the next level and these products will set the standard in the field."
